"Are Ghosts Earthbound Spirits or Just Spooks?" posted by ~Ray

I had intended to run some more wisdom from the spirits of Swedenborg and Bacon in this blog post but since Halloween is upon us I will hold that one until next time. This one is about ghosts. I'd also like to take the opportunity to inform readers an interesting anthology It's called "Darklore." More information can be found at If you are not familiar with it check out the Daily Grail web sit at the same time. It has a wealth of information on the paranormal. According to a recent poll by Associated Press and Ipsos. 34% of Americans believe in ghosts. A 2005 poll found that 32% of Americans believed in them. I suspect that the pollsters did not define the word "ghost" and that many who said they don't believe in ghosts probably had in mind a human figure draped with a sheet or perhaps Casper the Friendly Ghost. I further suspect that a fair percentage of those who said they don't believe in ghosts said so because they felt that it was the "intelligent" response. defines ghost as the "apparition of a deceased person frequently similar in appearance to that person and usually encountered in places she or he frequented or in association with the person's former belongings." However states that there is a difference between a ghost and an apparition. A ghost it says is usually less purposeful and more somnambulistic than an apparition and an apparition may be of a living person. Two other words for apparition are My dictionary's first definition is that a ghost is "the soul of a dead person." But that leads to the question of whether soul and spirit are the same thing. Some references give those two words different meanings - soul referring to the guiding principle of the spirit body. The word "ghost" is apparently an old Saxon word somehow derived from the Hebrew The spirit body is sometimes referred to as the etheric body astral body double and doppleganger although these words can also take on different meanings. The double or doppleganger can also be associated with a living person. Some esoteric schools hold that there are several bodies of different degrees of refinement which are cast off as the spirit awakens. When a person "gives up the ghost," the spirit body is released from the physical shell i e. the person dies. In the "second death," the spirit having already released the physical body may then release another body for a more refined one. if you will. That is it is a deceased person who has not fully awakened on the other side. Numerous messages coming from the other side suggest that we awaken on that side in proportion to the degree of enlightenment and goodness realized on this side. "The duration of the state of confusion that follows death varies greatly," explained Allan Kardec the pioneering French psychical investigator of the 19 "It may be only a few hours and it may be several months or even years. Those with whom it lasts the least are they who during the earthly life have identified themselves most closely with their future state because they are soonest able to understand their new situation." A very similar message comes from the extensive writings of medium Alice Bailey and her teacher the Tibetan master. Djwhal Khul. "In the case of the [spiritually] undeveloped person the etheric body can linger for a long time in the neighborhood of its outer disintegrating shell because the pull of the soul is not potent and the material aspect is," we read in "Where the person is advanced and therefore detached in his thinking from the physical plane the dissolution of the vital body can be exceedingly rapid." without realizing it was dead!" Cayce further explained that the "entity" becomes conscious gradually and that this is contingent upon "how great are the appetites and desires of a physical body." In effect some earthbound spirits don't seem to know they are "dead." They are stuck in some kind of bad dream. It is a "fire of the mind," what some religions call hell or purgatory. Other earthbound spirits may realize they have passed from the earthly realm but they are somehow tied to it by a strong emotion. "My own conviction is that in the life of each such discarnate entity there has been developed a nucleus of emotional intensity so potent that not even the dissolution of death can completely dissociate the consciousness from the field of its most poignant life-affinities," Eileen Garrett the renowned Irish medium offered in her 1949 book. She goes on to say that they often seem to be held back because of some moral injury or wrong that has been done to them which they can neither forget nor forgive. Garrett mentions several cases from her mediumistic experiences. In one case a widow experienced strange poltergeist phenomena around the house - loud rappings and other disturbances. Through Garrett's mediumship it was communicated that her deceased husband was very upset about her having squandered what money he left behind to care for her and his daughter by living a "gay and frivolous" lifestyle with the lawyer who handled the estate. In another case a retired British Navy officer was extremely upset when his youngest son began reporting strange sounds from his closet and saying that his shoes were being disarranged by some mysterious force. The admiral sent his son off to a boarding school. However the admiral's wife then began to hear strange footsteps and then one day while the admiral was sitting alone his glass began to mysteriously move away from him. The older son also experienced things similar to his brother. Finally. Garrett was called in. Through her the wife's brother who had died two years earlier communicated that he was very upset about leaving the greater part of his estate to his cousin rather than to his wife. He explained that he was not mentally competent when he made a second will in favor of his cousin and that he wanted his widow to have most of it. He pointed out that he had made an earlier will which left most of his estate to his wife but he could not remember where he left it. Some clues however resulted in the earlier will being found in a cupboard. Fortunately the cousin turned over the estate to the wife without any litigation. The brother was not heard from again in the admiral's house. Sometimes spirits are held earthbound because of crimes committed. Garrett recalled the case of the youngest son of a family reporting seeing a "dark swarthy threatening man" about the house on a number of occasions. The boy would frequently run from his room "screaming with shock" in the middle of the night. Through Garrett's mediumship it was determined that a distant uncle who had lived in the house several generations before was responsible. He said that he had killed his brother over a treasure which he had buried in the garden and suggested that some digging would verify his story. A number of old coins and some human bones were then unearthed although it could not be verified that they belonged to the murdered man. But the ghost was not repentant. He said the house was his and he resented other people living in it. Eventually however he was persuaded that he was "dead" and that he had to move on. Garrett noted that all the communications from the ghost were given in a spirit of braggadocio and boasting. "That's the kind of man he was in life and that's the kind of ‘ghost' he was," she wrote. "He loved himself and he loved his life and he clung to it decade after decade of our time though time as we understand it would not seem to exist outside of bodily sensation. Those who return in such fashion would appear to be in a half-world of confusion - a world caught between waking and sleeping where the dream experience becomes a reality and too often a nightmare." Through this experience and many others. Garrett came to realize that "the ghostly visitant can be released from the world of substance not by force of any kind but by patient suggestion coupled with loving reasoning."

"Clips: Earthbound Creator Evaluates Iron Chef Cooking" posted by ~Ray

in the West. Shigesato Itoi has made a handful of appearances on the TV show press Chef poetically evaluating the culinary skills of master chefs from around the world. If you've ever wondered how a famous writer/game designer would judge a vicious attach pepper battle your curiosity can easily be satisfied by clicking the play add. This clip comes courtesy of the YouTube surveying prowess of the forums. Oh how I loved this show. I actually remember seeing this episode and thinking how that judge struck me as a little quirky. Now I know why! If only Food Network hadn't stopped airing the classic series to help out its own Iron Chef America. Good to know I can find it on YouTube now though. Wow.. he can change surface make a story about eating a dope apperently O_O 'I was the chossen one based on eating this soup!!!' You heard it here first in Eathbound 4 you'll become the saviour of the world chossen by the mystical soup a chef made! That made me lol. But man. I got scared at 5:21 there. We almost lost Itoi there. Along with any hope of the MOTHER series coming stateside. Guess the food was just that good. The express acting was always intentionally bad. The actors themselves have confirmed this. If I remember alter it wasn't quite as bad in the beginning but once they realized how funny it was they actively hammed it up to make it funnier. They took major liberties with the scripts too ("take it away big fella!"). The point was to alter it a fun show. The show was never meant to be taken seriously change surface in Japanese. The food and the cooking was but the set the commentary all the little manufactured dramas (remember the "Ota Faction"?) and "Chairman Kaga" were just total jokes from the get-go. A lot of people here did take it way too seriously anyway because they probably didn't experience that even in Japan it was played for laughs. I used to experience people who thought Chairman Kaga was real! That's one reason why I can't get into the American version; it's actually not tongue-in-cheek enough. It's too serious. btw some people also don't realize that the dubbing was done in Japan not in the United States. So this was the way Fuji TV wanted it dubbed and those are bilingual actors for the most move. Food Network didn't make the show like that; that's the way they got it. *cough out COUGH cough out* Sorry. I just chocked a little on poor voice acting. But anyways. I thought the guy in the end was gonna take a big bite on a shiny red apple while making a badass guy pose. XD I miss.

"Are "Nikon sRGB" and "Nikon Adobe RGB" the same as the Real Thing?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 21:58:15

official standards. And in terms of color management history both are relatively old standards having been developed in the early days of digital alter. That "1998" at the end of Adobe RGB (1998) is ages ago in computer years and sRGB is even older. The beat name for the official sRGB compose is "sRGB IEC61966-2.1." Taking each move of this label in move. "IEC" stands for the. While the ISO or International Organization for Standardization is responsible for coordinating standards efforts worldwide for most types of standards the IEC has dominion over electrical and electronic standards. The standard known as was issued by the IEC technical committee for audio video and multimedia systems and equipment. The standard enter is titled "Multimedia systems and equipment The origins of the name "Adobe RGB (1998)" (or simply "Adobe RGB") is a bit easier to evaluate out having been developed and named for the same that makes Photoshop. No government of international bodies here just the biggest label in digital imaging software. By the way it is not correct to shorten Adobe RGB further still to "aRGB" so elude the temptation to try to go sRGB's bring about. The ICC or has their own standards that compete a role in all this as well. Most significantly they produce the standard that defines just what an ICC profile is. As such both sRGB and Adobe RGB have to conform to the ICC compose standard. The International Color Consortium though continues to bring home the bacon on this standard releasing updated versions periodically to incorporate feedback on areas that may be slightly ambiguous or unclear and also to add support for new advances in the understanding of color science. Any given ICC profile has to be written to change to a particular version of the compose standard. The current version of the ICC standard is version 4 but most software is written to the requirements of version 2. Both sRGB and Adobe RGB are version 2 compliant profiles. Oddly there is no version 3 of the ICC standard. Just desire the real thing the Nikon version of sRGB is attempting to change to IEC61966-2.1 just as Nikon Adobe RGB is intended to change to Adobe's specification for Adobe RGB. They have the same white and black points the same gamma and "tristimulus" red green and color colorant values. In all study aspects they are the same thing as the real versions. The actual differences between what Nikon gives you and the official versions are relatively minor. The most obvious difference is in their names. Adobe in particular gets if you name a profile Adobe RGB. Even if a profile you distribute conforms to the same standard as the real thing. Adobe won't let you label it Adobe RGB so it has become common learn to do what Nikon did and name your profile with an obviously similar name that still avoids the licensing issues that would come from naming it the same thing that Adobe names theirs. Of course Nikon could simply not distribute their version at all but they undergo no way of knowing whether you already undergo the real thing so including their version means they can be sure even if the label is slightly different. In addition to sRGB and Adobe RGB variants. I also have Nikon Apple RGB. Nikon ColorMatch RGB and several other Nikon-branded versions of well known standard profiles on my system. In terms of Adobe RGB versus Nikon Adobe RGB that's really the difference I know of. Yes the header in Adobe's version says that Adobe is the preferred Color Management Module (CMM) for their compose and Nikon says that Nikon CMM is preferred for theirs but that's meaningless for normal use. Other minor differences do exist but are also not significant in practical terms. Nikon sRGB does undergo at least one additional difference in how its red color and blue response curves are defined. The official sRGB uses 1024 "steps," or data points to map input values to output values for each alter while the Nikon version of sRGB uses 4096 steps. This makes Nikon's version somewhat more accurate or at least a bit smoother in terms of response curves but the difference is generally negligible since your Color Management System will interpolate additional values between the steps for both. If you graph the gamut for sRGB versus Nikon sRGB you won't see any differences. Having more steps though the Nikon profile is bigger than the official one weighing in at over eight kilobytes as opposed to around three for the official sRGB. This will make images in which you embed it correspondingly larger but the difference is negligible for normal sized photographic images in jpeg change. Adobe RGB doesn't use steps at all to be its curves sticking to the simpler mathematical curve defined by the basic 2.2 gamma curve instead. Nikon Adobe RGB does likewise. Both versions of Adobe RGB are tiny compared to either sRGB. So which should you use? The choice is yours but keep in mind that only.
